Yohannes Murphy

Music teacher (Grade 5, 6, 7 and 8)

Yohannes Murphy is thrilled to be joining the Gardner School as the 5-8th grade music teacher.   He has been teaching music and theater arts in the Portland/Vancouver area for the past eight years.  Whether teaching private guitar lessons or conducting a large choir of children, Yohannes has the capacity to inspire and excite his students about music.  His pursuit of music education began after high school while travelling through Southern Africa.  In 2007 one of his childrens’ choirs was invited to sing at the Governor’s Inauguration.  He is also invited multiple times a year to lead the arts program for a childrens’ academy in Santa Cruz, CA.   He is a sought after “artist in residence” for many public and private schools around the area.  Yohannes is also an accomplished singer and actor and has performed in numerous musical theater productions around the Northwest.  He resides in Lake Oswego where he and his wife run their own music education business.  He also has two beautiful daughters, ages 4 and 10.
