Zeph Halsey
Wy’East (Grade 3 and 4) teacher Zeph grew up along the Erie Canal in upstate New York and earned his bachelor’s degree in human biology at Cornell University. After graduating, he taught 6th grade math and coached rowing at the Haverford School in suburban Philadelphia. Zeph came with his wife, who is from Eugene, OR, to Vancouver in 2007. While coaching rowing at clubs in the Portland area, Zeph also tutored students of all ages and worked as a special education assitant in the Vancouver School District. Zeph received his Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from WSU Vancouver in 2010. After trying out many schools in the area as a substitute, Zeph found the Gardner School to be the friendliest and most supportive learning community he had ever been a part of. He had the opportunity to teach in the Klickitat class for a month at the end of last year. Zeph still coaches the Willamette Rowing Club on weekends, and occasionally is able to race himself. In addition to rowing, Zeph is a member of the Vancouver Bike Club, and an avid runner, cross-country skier and backpacker. He hopes to commute from his home near Clark College by bike at least 3 times a week. The small class sizes at Gardner give Zeph the ideal enviornment to use his relationship building skills. He prides himself on being able to get to know every student in a way that makes it possible to meet their indvidual learning needs. |
