OPEN CHOICE DAY!“I will always remember this Open Choice!” exclaimed an excited Kalama student after a morning spent traipsing through mud at WSU and touring Jeld-Wen Field in the afternoon. “Rowing was so awesome and I can’t wait to try it again,” Kerridywn (Tahoma, gr.8) shared. Claire, our Mazama teacher spent time with children in the wetlands and helped with the Microbiology class. She described her experience with our Open Choice day as being enhanced by the level of investment that the children so obviously displayed. She marveled as she saw children volunteering to help and how older students showed such careful consideration of younger children. It was a magical morning in the science lab and out in our cherished open space. Gardner’s first ever all-day Open Choice was a huge success in the eyes of the faculty and the students. It was a perfect example of the magic that happens here, making our school a very special place. The offerings (Skiing/Snowboarding, Rowing, Fort Vancouver/Pioneer Cooking, Painting the Boys Bathroom/Touring Jeld-Wen Field, Transportation Fun [Bus, Max, Trolley, Tram], WSU Hike/Fort Building, Microbiology, Exploring the Wetlands) allowed our students to pursue passions or try something new, investigate and explore the world around them, and strengthen social relationships. As usual, the parent support was invaluable and the faculty would like to thank everyone who drove, skied, rowed, toured and ‘scienced’ with us this week. We couldn’t have done it without you! |
