Camp Description |
| Culture, Craft and Cooking! |
6 and up |
Enjoy traveling around the world by tasting the flavor of Spain, France, Mexico, Italy and China. We will cook original recipes and have fun doing crafts from each of the chosen countries. Each day we will cook one dish and make one craft from each country. All materials are included. |
| Summer Olympic Games! |
6 and up |
The excitement of The Gardner Winter Olympics will continue this summer with our celebration of the Summer Olympics. Join in the fun as students represent different countries and participate in 12 different events. Some examples of these events are track and field, ribbon gymnastics, water polo, chess, fencing, bike racing and golf. Come see how we create our own Olympics at The Gardner School where all children are winners. |
| Meet Robert Munsch! |
4 – 6 |
Robert Munsch just may be my favorite children’s author of all time. These camps will blend the joyful and humorous storytelling of Robert Munsch with all kinds of activities and adventures. Each morning a different book will be read as an introduction. Then the day will be filled with activities that reflect the book’s theme including: dragons , princes & princesses, baking, face paint, costumes & dress up, snow, music, art, etc. Some of the books featured during the week will include: Mortimer, Purple, Green and Yellow, I Have To Go, Show and Tell, Stephanie’s Ponytail, Aaron’s Hair, The Paperbag Princess and more! There will be two different Robert Munsch, camps each running for one week. Your child is welcome to attend one week or both. Let the fun begin! |
| High Adventure! |
7 – 13 |
This camp is only for the adventurous! We will take 5 day trips each filled with excitement and summer fun. We will spend one day at Lewisville Park hiking, swimming, playing games and exploring. Another day will be spent in downtown Portland exploring the park blocks , the waterfront and playing in the fountains. Another day will be at Mt. Hood Adventure Park riding the alpine slides, jumping on the bungee trampoline and playing in the batting cages, miniature golf course and driving the Indy Karts. We will also take a trip to the beautiful Oregon coast. Finally a rafting trip down the rapids of the Deschutes River. |
| Team Sports! |
7 – 13 |
This is your chance to compete in a variety of team sports. Emphasis is placed on sportsmanship. We will create a positive supportive environment where students learn to play as a team. The sports students will be participating in are hockey, basketball, soccer, speedminton and softball. |
| The Great Outdoors! |
4 – 7 |
Calling all Nature Explorers! Come to camp this week to investigate bugs, explore the wetlands, watch birds, and build structures. Campers will also conduct cooking projects, play games, read and act out stories, and create natural art. A week of outdoor fun for 4-7 year olds! |
| Fun Start! |
3 year olds |
Join the Mazama I teacher, Gayle LaHusen, for a week of great fun. This is a wonderful way to get acquainted with the classroom environment and the outside play area. It is also an opportunity for your child to make new friends with other children who may be in the same class next school year. We will explore art, sing songs, read books, tell stories, go for walks, cook, and much more. |
| Fix it! |
8 – 13 |
Learn how to use a variety of different tools and observe how to use more complex ones. Spend time working on projects around school and also make small things to take home. |
| Water Works! |
4 – 6 |
There is no better time for water camp than in the warm August sun! Join me for a fun filled week of hands on activities where campers will explore bubble-ology, learn properties of water, create water projects in art and science, play with water and much, much more! |
| Science Investigations! |
7 – 13 |
Join me to explore a wide range of science topics over the course of this week. Explore the habitats of the Gardner School through tracking mammals, capturing amphibians, and counting insects. Use microscopes to view and identify the critters of Gardner Pond and nearby Mill Creek. Inside our new science lab, conduct experiments in chemistry and physics to uncover the principles of science. Learn about the science of everyday tools and toys. The week will include an optional Thursday night camp-out in the Gardner Wetlands, where we will star gaze and hoot for owls. |
| Games for Fun! |
4 – 6 |
Children who have fun moving when they are young will grow up to be adults who love to move. My main goal is for children to leave class with a smile on their face and sweat on their brow. Children will have the opportunity to work with a variety of equipment including the parachute, hula hoop, bean bags, scarves, jump ropes, tumbling mats and balls of all sizes. Children will also participate in a variety of games that are age appropriate such as Mr. Fox, Pirates, Dog Pound, Beehive and Cookie Jar. |
| Transportation Exploration! |
7 – 13 |
If you love things that go, this is the summer camp for you! Join me for a transportation adventure as we explore the public transportation of our metro area! We will ride C-Tran and Tri-Met busses, hop on the Max, go on the streetcar, glide on the OHSU tram, watch the trains arrive and depart at the historic Portland Train Station, and more! We will meet daily at the Salmon Creek Park and Ride Center near the school, and return there in the afternoon. |
| Color my World! |
6 and up |
This art camp revolves around the color wheel. How do we mix a rainbow of colors using only the primary colors? How do we effectively utilize warm and cool colors? The students will experiment with different kinds of paint, get a chance to tie-dye a T- shirt, create collages, and learn about some artists who are masters of COLOR. Dress for a mess! |
| Wander and Wonder! |
6 and up |
Our week together will be an opportunity to take a closer, deeper look into the natural environment that surrounds The Gardner School. The wetlands behind the school and the grounds of Washington State University will be the setting. This adventure is inspired by the words of Rachel Carson “Help Your Child to Wonder,” and by William Blake “To see the world in a grain of sand, and to see heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hands, and eternity in an hour.” |
