Gear Up for Back-to-School!

Take advantage of The Gardner Schools two-week Gear-Up Workshop to prepare students to hit
the ground running at the start of the school year. This is a rich opportunity for small
group and individualized instruction to build and review study and academic skills.
Grades 1-3: The focus is on strategies for reading comprehension and fluency, writing
clearly, and building understanding as well as building skills in math.
Grades 4-6: The focus is on building skills in math and literacy. Additionally,
time management, organization, study strategies and research skills are emphasized.
Grades 7-8: The focus is on sharpening abstract thinking to enhance reading
and math comprehension as well as clarity and depth in writing. Students needing
review in the mechanics of writing will receive support in this area. Time management,
organization, study strategies and research skills are emphasized.

A childs love of learning doesnt stop when summer comes. That is why The Gardner School
introduces the two-week Academic Challenge Adventure Workshop. This fun and stimulating
class features exploration of a variety of topics in the humanities, mathematics and
the sciences.
This class sparks curiosity and hones problem solving and reasoning skills. Students
tackle classic riddles, logic problems and famous historical and scientific puzzles
that intrigue and delight the young thinker.
The instructor utilizes teaching traditions ranging from modern, hands-on inquiry
to the Socratic Method to introduce formal reasoning skills.
This class is geared toward the talented and gifted child, and open to all. The
Academic Challenge Adventure Workshop welcomes children entering 3rd to 6th grade.
Younger children may be admitted with the discretion of the teacher.
