Vision

Each child is a unique individual with strengths, weaknesses, aptitudes, interests and capabilities. At Gardner, our purpose is to identify a student's personal strengths and skills so that the student will gain a strong understanding of self and use that knowledge to strengthen their learning. Our educational philosophy is informed from the pioneering work of Dr. Howard Gardner.

Dr. Gardner is recognized worldwide for his pioneering "Theory of Multiple Intelligences" as a framework to understand the complex nature of human intelligence. A core principle of this theory is the recognition that people think and learn differently and that intelligence can be expressed in a multitude of ways. Dr. Gardner defines eight separate intellectual domains: verbal/linguistic, logical/mathematical, spatial, musical, body/kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal and naturalist.

At The Gardner School, we provide opportunities for students to demonstrate their unique intelligence, whether that be reading, drawing, leading a group or understanding differences in wetland plants. Instruction focuses on building skills in all of the intelligences, as well as incorporating a variety of intelligences in the study of multidimensional topics. The arts and the sciences are integral components of our curriculum.

At the Gardner School, we build confidence and excitement about learning, while fostering the development of each student's unique potential.
