Emily Figgz’s classroom is a welcoming and inclusive space where every student is valued for who they are. Emily grew up in Vancouver, WA, and attended the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, where she developed a deep love for music, visual arts, and dance. Her experiences there solidified her belief in the importance of integrating arts and academics to enhance student learning.

Emily began her journey in education as a Reading and Literacy Instructor for The Washington Reading Corps and later as a Special Education Paraeducator. These roles inspired her to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She went on to work as a substitute teacher, gaining diverse classroom experiences, before completing her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction.

Now in her third year at Gardner, Emily continues to cultivate a classroom rooted in care, curiosity, and creativity. She strives to create a community where every student feels supported, appreciated, and loved. In her classroom family, students are encouraged to celebrate one another through moments of success as well as challenges, uplifting each other along the way. Emily’s commitment to student well-being and her passion for arts integration remain at the heart of her teaching philosophy.

Emily got married in 2023, and she and her husband, James, love spending time with their dog, George. Together they enjoy exploring the outdoors, relaxing at home, and caring for their pup. Outside of school, Emily can often be found reading a good book, working on puzzles, or diving into new hobbies that spark her creativity.
