“School Readiness Week”: August 12th - 16th

The Tumtum, Mazama, and Kalama camps are limited to students enrolled in those classrooms for fall 2024. Priority for Scout Camp will be given to siblings of those in our Readiness camps. Remaining spots will be open to the wider community.

Week 1: July 8th - 12th

A creative assortment of sewing supplies, fabric, scissors, thread, rulers, and craft supplies arranged with a bouquet of flowers.

How It’s Made: Fabric Objects of Art with Joyce

Grades:  Kindergarten - 2nd

Time:  9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Cost:  $365

Description:  Bring in stuffed animals, dolls, game pieces, marbles, and tiny collections to make fabric “objets d’art”, like fabric drawstring bags, stuffed animal and doll clothing, tiny blankets, hats, capes, collages, collection bags and more! Advanced students may learn beginner crazy quilt techniques. All that you make will be yours to take home! Camp will also accept donations of fabric, felt, string, thread, and sewing notions.

Description:  This camp will have kids digging around the school grounds for a better understanding of insect identification and observation techniques. Insects found on our pesticide-free campus and wetlands include ladybugs, stink bugs, ants, praying mantises and many more! Campers will make temporary habitats to house their critters for an observation period before returning the creatures to their natural spaces. Bug habitats and other crafts will go home with the campers by the end of the week!

Cost:  $365

Description:  Spend a week as a real chef, cooking real food! Create a menu and open a “restaurant” with your kitchen team. Learn about different cuisines, kitchen safety, cooking techniques, and how to write your own recipes! All recipes will be nut-free, but can also be altered for other dietary or allergy needs if requested by June 15th.

How It’s Made: Recipes for Inedible Things with Joyce

Grades:  Kindergarten - 2nd

Time:  9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Cost:  $365

Description:  Each day we will follow a recipe to make play dough, plaster of Paris, slime, goop, and concrete. Your child will learn to read a recipe and follow step by step directions. Students will take home all the fun substances that they make!

Description:  This camp is fantasy-based. Each day we will complete an aspect of the creation of a fantasy character. We may create cardboard armor, design helmets, make wants, and paint crests, among other fantasy-based crafts and games. The week will conclude with a classic game of Giants, Wizards, and Elves. Students will take all their character element home at the conclusion of camp!

Description:  Your budding young artists will explore all things art for the week! We will engage a variety of techniques and media, including painting, drawing, building, sculpting, and more!

Description:  Let’s go to the beach (in our imaginations!) Through the power of play-based learning, explore all things ocean, sand, sun, and water! Our Imagination Playground has a large sand area and water toys, a speed boat, and more!

Description:  True to the name, Winter in July will be all things cold and wintery during one of the hottest months of the year! Young campers will explore science, art, literature and more through a play-based camp, learning about concepts like hot and cold, and celebrating snow in July!

Description:  Each day we will create wire sculptures, paper collages, original art prints, hand-bound books, and more. Students will take home a set of printed notecards and a blank book!

Description:  This camp is based on the Percy Jackson book series, portions of which we will read out loud over the course of the week. Students will sort themselves into “cabins” representing traditional Greek Gods and Goddesses, and participate in collaborative art and games. The last day of camp will consist of an epic game of capture the flag, followed by a lesson on how to make Ambrosia, the food of the Gods.

Description:  Spend the week as a chef and learn to cook real food! Create your own recipe and eat it too! Little chefs will learn about the basics of food preparation, kitchen safety, and how to follow a recipe. For chef safety, chefs will only prepare food for themselves, and only adults will handle any hot materials or powered appliances. Recipes are nut-free, but can be altered for other dietary needs if requested by July 1st.

Description:  Come learn the basics of lacrosse from an experienced player! Geared towards the younger end of elementary school, this camp will teach students the rules, drill them in the basic skills, and have them playing lacrosse games by the end of the week!

How It’s Made: Ceramic Objects of Art with Joyce

Grades:  Kindergarten - 2nd

Time:  9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Cost:  $365

Description:  We will learn many techniques for working with clay, including slab rolling, pinching, and coil making to create name art, animals, bowls or cups, pyramids, and more. Underglaze colors of the rainbow will be provided. All materials are non-toxic and appropriate for children. ** Clay items must be fired to harden completely, then fired to glaze. Before this, they must be bone dry. Therefore objects created in this camp will be available for pick up the week of August 12th - 16th. Photos each object will be sent home with campers for ease of identification at pickup time.

Description:  Each day will bring new lessons on each of the five classes of vertebrates. Expect campers to come home with stories, crafts, and basic identification skills about fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. We will explore our on-campus wetlands to see how many vertebrate species we can find!

Description:  Spend the mornings building creations with various items, then after our lunch break spend the afternoons playing various board games. Campers will be able to bring home the items they create. Students are welcome to bring in favorite board games to share with other campers, and we will have a good supply of ready-to-play games as well.

Description:  Become an astronaut and explore all things Outer Space through play-based learning! Explore strange new worlds, design aliens, learn about rockets, investigate planets and stars, and engage in exploratory outdoor play!

Description:  Each day we will make a different thing by following directions and using different types of molds (cupcakes, popsicles, melted crayons, concrete stepping stones, and paper.) * If you have a stepping stone mold, we’d love to borrow it for the duration of camp!

Description:  Take on challenges and become the ultimate champion! Collect points in every challenge by dodging obstacles, outsmarting puzzles, building creations, and racing to the finish line! Keep active and become a champion with your team!

Description:  Learn how to code Edison robots. During camp we will learn how to navigate mazes, detect objects, and program decisions for our Edisons to make. This leads to us running multiple robot wresting tournaments during camp. Legos will be used during camp, but will be left at the school. ** There is a $50 additional fee for this camp - take home your very own Edison robot! **

Bonus Week 6: August 12th- 16th

While our incoming Preschool, Pre-K, and Kindergarten students prepare for new school adventures during School Readiness Week (see below), students who have completed Kindergarten can attend a final week of Summer Camp!

Description:  Designed for our youngest adventurers, this camp helps our incoming Tumtummers feel comfortable with the transition of leaving parents and entering school for the first time. Get to know your new classroom, the teacher, and the school routines, all before the first day. Practice circle time activities and get a head start on what it’s like to be at school! While exploring at their own pace, campers will get to build relationships with their future teacher and classmates.
