Explosive Creativity
In this dynamic mixed-media work, our eldest students explore the powerful forces beneath the Earth’s surface, transforming scientific understanding into artistic expression. Drawing on their knowledge of Earth’s layers and tectonic movement, they depict a volcano—one of the planet’s most dramatic ways of releasing heat and energy.
Using a combination of paint, fabric, glass, and beads, students built a richly textured composition that reflects both structure and movement. Fiber arts techniques play a central role: students practiced stitching beads directly onto fabric while also learning to string beads onto wire, creating contrast in form and dimension. The addition of glass elements enhances the sense of molten energy and transformation.
Through this piece, students merge art and science, layering materials as thoughtfully as the Earth itself—revealing a story of pressure, creativity, and release.
